4. My car
hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it?

pick up vehicles in all 50 states?

6. How is
the value of my car determined?
|
|
A: In short, the IRS allows you (the donor) to assess the fair market
value of your vehicle. We will provide you with a donation receipt to
verify that you made the donation, but the receipt will not indicate the
value. We suggest that you refer to the Kelly Blue Book and print out the Private Party
Value for your vehicle and retain this with your donation receipt.
Don't forget to take into consideration the mileage and condition of
your vehicle when assessing its fair market value.
For additional information, the IRS provides a Donor's Guide to Car
Donations which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to
determine the value of your donated property. Here is a link to IRS
Publication 4303 — A
Donor’s Guide to Car Donations (PDF 179K).
